In 1972, Head Start began to mandate ten percent of its enrollment opportunities for children with disabilities-. Montgomery County Head Start has exceeded this requirement by having an inclusionary environment that ensures the meaningful participation of all children with disabilities in all aspects of the program. MCHS is a member of the Early Intervention Initiative of the Intermediate Unit. We have certified speech and language pathologists on staff giving therapy as prescribed in the child's Individualized Education Plan. Certified school psychologists provide assistance and training to staff, children and parents regarding atypical development, emotional well being and behavior management. They administer evaluations and make referrals.
