Head Start mandates that percent of its enrollment opportunities be provided for children with disabilities. Montgomery County Head Start has exceeded this requirement by having an inclusionary environment that ensures the meaningful participation of all children with disabilities in all aspects of the program. MCHS has an ongoing and strong partnership with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. They screen our children for speech/language delays, and when indicated, will offer an evaluation and possible Individualized Education Plan or IEP. This will lead to therapy services for the child. In addition, they may provide more comprehensive screenings where warranted. Consultant Certified School Psychologists provide assistance and training to staff, children and parents regarding atypical development, emotional well being and behavior management. They may administer evaluations and make referrals.
