Phyllis Borland Memorial Scholarship Fund

history

Phyllis Borland was the Executive Director of Montgomery County Head Start for more than 20 years. From 1972 until her sudden death in September of 1996, she guided the program from it's original three classrooms at the Community center in North Hills to a county wide program with 26 classrooms in 19 locations. Many families and individuals have benefited from the effects of her dedication and leadership during that time.
In celebration of Phyllis' life and in memory of her life-long love of "the kids", the Board of Directors, Parent Policy Council and Staff of Montgomery County Head Start have established the "Phyllis Borland Memorial Scholarship Fund" for former Head Start students.

Applicants for the annual scholarship award must be under 22 years of age at the time of application and continuing their education beyond high school. Applications are accepted through March 31 of each year, and the grant is awarded in June. Decisions are based upon scholarship, community service and need.
