                 Executive Director

Steven is the Executive Director / CEO of Montgomery County Head Start,   headquartered in Norristown, PA. He began his tenure in August of 2007 with the special distinction of being the first African American and male to lead the organization in its 46- year history. In partnership with a diverse Board of Directors composed of community leaders, his team of managers and 120 employees. Steven works closely with county, state and federal officials to educate, equip, empower and elevate the children, parents and communities of Montgomery County. He has over 14 years of experience in the human services industry that reflects a combination of leadership, management and direct service. Steven is also a field instructor for Cabrini College’s social work department. For the past two years, his work at Montgomery County Head Start has been recognized by The Times Herald when it was named the “best preschool program in Montgomery County.” Previously, Steven was the Head Start Program Director of St. Vincent de Paul Society of Baltimore. At that time, it was the largest program within the St. Vincent de Paul’s organization.   Steven holds a Master of Science in Social Work, with a concentration in Management and Community Organization, from the University of Maryland at Baltimore and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Steven completed LEADERSHIP Philadelphia in 2010. In 2009 he received a full scholarship to complete the Harvard Business School’s Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management program. In 2007, he was selected as one of 10 Head Start Directors throughout the US to attend the first ever “Starting Block Executive Leadership Program”, co-sponsored by Nike, Inc. and the National Head Start Association. Earlier in 2005 he completed the Black Charities, Inc. “Leaders 2000Plus Program” and the Head Start Johnson & Johnson Management Fellows Program at the University of California Los Angeles, Anderson School of Business in 2004.

Steven believes strongly in giving back to his community. He serves on The Center for Autism board and African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas vestry, volunteers as a youth basketball coach and mentor. Steven is married to Jameela Lewis and is the father of three sons Jabari, Khairi and Malik. Steven and his family reside in Ardmore, PA, and are members of The African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas, in West Philadelphia, PA.
